Northland Athletics

At Northland Lutheran High School, we believe that athletics play an important role in developing teamwork, leadership, and Christian sportsmanship. With a variety of sports offered throughout the school year, there is something for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned athlete or looking to try something new.

Our programs provide students with opportunities to compete, grow, and represent Northland with pride, all while building lifelong friendships and skills. Join a team, challenge yourself, and be part of the Wildcat spirit!

Fall Athletics

Coed Soccer

Soccer is a varsity sport that takes place in the fall season. Although the team is officially a boys’ soccer team, girls are welcome to participate and have often been part of the team.

The season begins with one or two weeks of practices before the start of the school year and ends in late October or early November, depending on playoff results. Practices are held every day after school, with about two games per week.

Luke Krueger is the head coach.

Girls Volleyball

Volleyball is a Junior Varsity & Varsity sport that takes place in the fall season. Optional summer camps and practices are available, and the season begins with one or two weeks of practices/tryouts before the start of the school year and ends in mid October.  Practices are held every day after school, with about two games per week.

Katie Mleziva is the head coach.

Coed Cross Country

Cross Country is a coed sport for athletes of all ability levels. The competitions are 5K (3.1 mile) races held at area golf courses against other high schools.

Anyone is welcome to join—whether you want to get faster, get in shape, or just make friends. Practices are held most days after school, with roughly one meet per week.

Winter Athletics

Boys and Girls Basketball

Basketball is a winter sport that begins in early November and ends in late February or early March. Both boys’ and girls’ teams have JV and Varsity teams. Practices are every day after school, with one to three games per week. Any interested athlete is encouraged to give basketball a try.

Ryan Wiechmann is the head coach for the boys, and Shannon Schmidt is the head coach for the girls.

Spring Athletics

Girls Softball

Softball is a girls’ varsity sport that takes place during the spring season. The season begins in mid-March and ends during the final week of school or the first week of summer.

Practices are held every day, often with two competitions per week—many of which are doubleheaders.

Debbie Price is the head coach.

Boys Baseball

Baseball is a boys’ varsity sport that begins in mid-March and typically ends during the first week of summer vacation.

Practices are held every day in the spring, with one or two games per week.

 

Coed Golf

Golf is a coed spring sport, and all ability levels are welcome.

Practices are held most days after school, and meets often require missing some class, so academic responsibility is essential for participation on the golf team.

There is usually one meet per week during the final six weeks of the school year, with the potential for additional meets in the summer depending on qualification for sectional and state meets.

Coed Track and Field

Track & Field is a coed spring sport, and all ability levels are welcome.

Events include:
🏅 Jumping – long jump, triple jump, high jump
💪 Throwing – shot put & discus
⚡ Sprinting – 100M, 200M, 400M, 100M hurdles, 300M hurdles
🏃 Long-Distance Running – 800M, 1600M, 3200M
🔁 Relays

Practices are held most days after school.
